we are going to continue to monitor the situation as far as caltrans. they came out here and they should be out here again this morning. if they cannot immediately after this happened to the bay bridge, here is what they had to say about the possible damage. >> the very first that our inspectors look for is to make sure that the bay bridge is still safe. the investigation showed that it performed as it was designed. about 30 to 40 ft. our system has been damaged and will need to be replaced. a damaged in the way it was supposed to and protected the bridge. there is structural damage as a result and we will not have to be doing any work on the bridge itself other than to repair the collision. >> according to authorities at the time of the collision the vehicle was going approximately 13 mi. an hour. fortunately it was eight double hull so no oil leaked into the severance is go bay. it was not carrying fuel except for its own fuel to propel itself. authorities learned that from what happened six years ago they could catch a lot of heat for not responding
